The organization works to help the needy just in time for the holidays
NEW ALBANY, IND. (WAVE) – The lasting impacts of the pandemic continue to affect families during the holiday season.
To overcome these economic challenges, local families are working with Miles for Merry Miracles to help those in need.
âWe shop with our volunteers; they come with their angel sponsors, âsaid Co-President Myla Tissandier.
This is the busiest time of the year for the organization. Many events, like Gift of Giving, are organized every year.
âIt’s a fun event that people love to bring with their friends and family,â Tissandier said. âThese angels are in a situation of low poverty in their life. Most of the time, they cannot afford gifts or clothes.
Thanks to the generous support of the community, these families receive food and clothing to spend the holidays.
âKids don’t necessarily know the gifts come from us. We like to make it as secret as possible, âTissandier said.
About 60 to 80 families have been helped each year for the past 13 years.
Normally, the organization has a massive event so far, including a 5k run, but it has been scaled down this year due to COVID.
âPeople will come back next year. They tell their friends; they tell their families. It makes people feel good about giving back to the community.
