The news of the Alliance zone in brief for June 21
VETERANS COMMISSION – The Stark County Veterans Services Commission will meet at 1 p.m. June 21 at the commission office, 2955 Wise Ave. NW in Plain Township.
ALLIANCE PARKS – Alliance City Parks Board Commissioners will meet at 2:30 p.m. June 21 at the Silver Park office, 2930 S. Union Ave.
CIVIL SERVICE – The Alliance Police Department announced that civil service promotion exams will be held for lieutenant, sergeant and captain in August. The lieutenant exam will take place at 9 a.m. on August 3. The Sergeant’s exam will take place at 9 a.m. on August 24. The captain’s exam will take place at 9 a.m. on August 3. Sign-up sheets will be posted at the Alliance Police Department until 4:00 p.m. July 11 for the Lieutenant Exam. ; until 4 p.m. on July 25 for the sergeant’s exam; and until 4 p.m. on July 11 for the captain’s exam. All exams will be given at the Alliance Senior Center, 602 W. Vine St. The Oral Assessment Board will be held Sept. 23 for the Lieutenant and Captain exams, and Oct. 6 and 7 for the Sergeant. The place and times will be announced after the written part of the exams.
BELOIT COUNCIL – Beloit Village Council is planning a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the town hall. The purpose of the meeting is to possibly take steps to accept the resignation of a public official. The board may also appoint a person to fill the position temporarily.
HISTORICAL PRESERVATION – The Alliance Town Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 10 a.m. June 24 in the City Administration Building, 504 E. Main St., Second Floor Conference Room.
HISTORICAL SALEM – The Salem Historical Society Museum will offer free admission to fathers on June 19 accompanied by a family member. The museum is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Enter through the gift shop, 239 S. Lundy Ave. The gift shop is also open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 330-337-8514.
STARK SMHA – The Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority board of directors is planning a special meeting for 11 a.m. Thursday at the SMHA’s central office, 400 Tuscarawas St. E in Guangzhou. The purpose of the meeting is to allow the council to retire in executive session to consider the employment of a public employee.
BIBLE SCHOOL – St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3295 S. Union Ave. at Alliance, is planning a vacation Bible school from June 20-24 for children ages 3 through those who have just completed fifth grade. Sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will include vacation Bible school and a free hot lunch for all registered students.
