Jessica Litman is a professional organizer and influencer best known as “The Organized Mama”. Her new book, “Home Sweet Organized Home” has just been released and offers tips for organizing and decluttering every room in your home. Here are some of her favorite home organization tips, broken down by room.

Papers can pile up on kitchen counters, so use a tray to store everything and collect all the papers

Lazy Susans under the sink can help organize cleaning supplies around those piles. Nothing gets lost on the back as you can simply spin the turntable.

Use a sink organizer to keep soaps and sponges organized.

Home office:

Work from home tip: Create zones for different parts of your office to stay focused. If you’re not sure if you’re using an item in your home office, set it aside. Set a reminder on your phone for a week. If you don’t use this item, you can throw it away/donate it. If you use it, find a place to store it.

Hybrid office tip – set up your office as if you had it in the office. It helps you stay semi-consistent with how you work throughout the day.

Tips for kids:

Use a craft cart to store children’s art supplies. Store paper in magazine racks. Group similar items together in bags or containers.

Label everything! Image tags work best for emerging readers.

Bathrooms :

Check the shelf life of your bathroom products. Not all products last forever. To keep it tidy, line up the items in your cabinets in rows with the product that will expire first at the front. If you’re buying something new, add that item to the back of the line.

Towels – you really only need 2 bath towels per person in the house with a few extra towels for guests. If you don’t have laundry nearby, 3-4 towels are fine.

Not sure if you’re wearing something? Flip the hanger. It’s a visual reminder to see what you’re wearing and what you’re not wearing.

Hang the necklaces so they don’t get tangled.

Group clothes according to how you wear them. Gather all work clothes and loungewear.

Provide a basket for intermediate clothes. Things that aren’t totally clean but aren’t totally dirty. This helps them not to touch the ground.
